Interfaith Housing Initiative

As a citizen representative on the Edmonton Homeless Commission, Archbishop Smith has been working on ways to engage Edmonton's faith leaders in our collective mission to shelter the homeless. On March 17, 2011, through the Capital Region Interfaith Housing Initiative, these leaders formally pledged their support for Edmonton's 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. The Initiative involves over 100 people from 23 different religious traditions and they're translating their support for the Plan into action. They have joined forces with the Edmonton Homeless Commission to announce the new Welcome Home program, funded in part by Enbridge in partnership with United Way, with a $100,000 directed United Way donation for the first year. The Capital Region Interfaith Housing Initiative also released a Congregational Housing Action Guide, which offers people a variety of ways to get involved in ending homelessness.
